Our early years setting is called Playdays Early Years, it is for children aged from two to preschool. Being under the governance of Longlevens Primary Federation ensures a strong early years educational focus. We are passionate about enabling all our children to reach their potential. The children enjoy a mix of free flow play based on their own interests, exploration of our lovely and extensive outside environments including Forest School. We are a relational based setting which uses Emotion coaching and restorative conversations to encourage children to be independent, nurture their skills and supporting them to be ready for school.

At Playdays Early Years, your child will be allocated a Key Person who will support both yours and your child's needs. They will build a strong bond with your child during their time with us and help them to feel safe and secure in their new environment. The Key Person is also responsible for building up a Learning Journey for your child. Here at Playdays Early Years we use 'Tapestry' a secure online journal. This will include observations, photographs and art work, as well as a way to helping the staff and families celebrate their children's learning and development.

Our curriculum follows the EYFS Framework 2021 and has been designed with the needs, interests and life experiences of our children in mind. Our curriculum consists of the prime areas of learning: Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Communication and Language (CL) and Physical Development, and the Specific areas of learning: Literacy (L), Mathematics (M), Understanding the World (UW) and Expressive Arts & Design (EAD).

In Playdays, we learn through a range of adult directed activities and child-initiated play in which children learn new skills in a stimulating environment.

Children have access to daily rhyme time and story sessions, as well as adult led inputs to develop their pre-reading skills such as sound discrimination, rhyme, alliteration and oral blending. and inputs to develop their early mathematical concepts such as sorting, comparison, counting and number recognition.

We aim to cover a range of themes based on children's interests. These can include: 'Me, Myself and I', 'Remembering and Celebrating', 'A Walk-through Winter', 'The Great Outdoors', 'Animal Antics' and 'Imagine If..'. These themes align with what is covered at Longlevens Infant School.

Pre-school:

Children have free flow access between the Pre-School room and the outdoor learning environment. There is an additional room where children can have quiet time, take part in small group work or take a nap if they need to. Different provision areas are available both indoors and outdoors, such as sand and water play, role play, construction, small world, mark making and a mud kitchen. The provision activities are skilfully planned to meet the individual needs and interests of the children, as well as promoting awe and wonder in the world around them. Children have plenty of opportunities for exploratory, hands-on learning through our vibrant indoor and outdoor provision, regular 'welly walks' in the local environment (including use of the Longlevens Junior School facilities), alongside trips, visits to the local library, learning exciting cooking skills, helping to grow fruit and vegetables in the garden and visits to the Forest School area.
