At LJS we are very lucky to have a very well resourced art room. Art is taught by our specialist teacher, Mrs Baker, to all pupils across the school on rotation, during PPA time.
Over their time with us, pupils will build upon their drawing, painting and sculpture skills; in addition to developing printmaking, collage and textiles techniques. Where practical, links are made between art lessons and the wider curriculum in order to enrich and deepen understanding.
We are always looking for opportunities to share our art work with the wider community and have regularly exhibited our work in the City Museum. If you are interested in finding out more about our art, belong to a community group or business that would be interested in celebrating our work please do get in touch with Mrs Baker.
Mrs Baker recently received a teacher grant from Goldsmiths Company to develop her own printing techniques and broaden the learning experiences we are able to offer our pupils. The report outlining her project is currently used as a case study on the Goldsmiths website and can be read at http://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/charity/general-charity/education-case-studies/ .
It is essential that all pupils have an art shirt with them in school everyday, as class teachers also include art in their teaching and many of the materials we use in school will not wash out.
